Bonjour à tous!
Welcome to the {Vg} Review where I go Vegeing at a vegan or vegan friendly establishment and share my experience. Last weekend I was in the fun and bustling city of Philadelphia where culinary veganism has really developed into somewhat of a mecca.
In my early vegan days, I lived in Philadelphia and it was very difficult to dine out especially since the use of the word vegan wasn’t popular. Center City has adapted well to plant food culture and I had a very pleasant plant eating experience this time around.
While I was there, I visited Charlie Was A Sinner, Bar Bombón, Hip City Veg, P.S. & Co., Govinda’s Vegetarian, 20th Stree Pizza, and The Palm Tree.
While all the places I visited served up tasty plant eats, the highlight of my excursions was the Puerto Rico meets Philadelphia Philly Steak Empanadas at Bar Bombón.
I visited Bar Bombón, a moderately small bar and restaurant in the heart of Rittenhouse Square on 18th, one block from the park, during its daily brunch. The atmosphere was bright, comfortable, and friendly with a menu of terrific compilations of plant-based Latin offerings. The plantains were delightful, garnished with tiny dollops of a plant version of sour créme. The neatly packaged Philly Steak Empanada pastry was hearty and flaky served on a wooden cutting board to prepare me for the burst of flavorful plant meat, onions, and spices that expelled after I cut into it. I really enjoyed the plant-inventive, elevated, Latin food experience at Bar Bombón. Thanks for the hospitality David, I’ll be back again!
The city has many great plant food establishments from fine dining to pizzeria, and from cocktail bar tapas to gourmet neighborhood store subs. I visited a few this trip and will continue to list the highlights on the {Vege}ing blog so stay tuned in my plant-curious followers. The city of Philadelphia has definitely become a vegan traveler’s friend.
À bientot!
